EXPERIMENTAL WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT WITH MOVABLE WALL – VARVARA

Employer/ Beneficiary: Municipality of Tsarevo
Implementation period: 2000 – 2003

Design parameters:

  • WWTP capacity – 800 PE
  • Qav.d.= 133 m³/d
  • Qmax.h.= 10 m³/h
  • BOD5= 81 kg/d

Innovative element:

The chosen treatment process is based on biological treatment with active sludge, including mechanical treatment in sand filters.

Further development is the introduction of movable walls in SBR systems. The proposed new SBR-MW solution was applied for the first time to Sinemorets (1500 PE) and Varvara (800 PE) sewage treatment plants, which could be considered as pilot plants. This is an option for upgrading SBR reactors to achieve higher standards for discharged wastewater.

The activated sludge reactor is designed as a new SBR system design. The provision of a movable wall in the reactor capable of providing continuous inlet and outlet flow (i.e. saving the need for a second SBR reactor or equalizer), as well as increasing the reactor volume to 40% during the purification process are of great importance for reducing operating and investment costs.

The load of the treatment plant has a pronounced seasonal unevenness, which is consistent with the modes of all facilities in it.

Technical scheme:

On the Waterline – Combined Facility (Situated in a Building), consisting of:

  • Inlet shaft;
  • Inlet settling chamber;
  • SBR-reactor with a mobile wall (new development);
  • Sand filter;
  • Disinfection chamber;
  • Outlet shaft;

On the Sludge line:

  • Silo for sludge with intended aerobic stabilization;
  • Removal of the sludge for further dewatering and recovery;

Performed activities:

  • Detailed Design by all design parts;
  • Technical coordination;
  • Monitoring and control of the implementation;
  • Turnkey execution;
  • Supervision;
  • Start-up, adjustment, and commissioning;

Investment value of the project: 102 500 € (without VAT)
